The statue, which has stood on the site for almost 100 years, will stay in its current location even after diplomats leave the colonial-era compound and tropical gardens which has been sold for £420m, a record sum for a foreign office sale.  It is believed by Bangkok residents to give good luck and is often visited by locals who ask it for blessings such as fertility, success in exams or a good marriage. center_img A war memorial on the site, commemorating Thai soldiers lost on the Western Front during the First World…last_img
