Google Shopping Express same day delivery experiment begins

first_imgToday, Google has announced it is kicking off an experiment that will allow a small number of people to receive goods they order through a new Google storefront on the same day. It’s called Google Shopping Express, and for the moment it will be limited to the San Francisco Bay Area. More specifically, Google says you are eligible to take part if you live in the city of San Francisco or the Peninsula from San Mateo to San Jose. The stores taking part in the experiment include American Eagle Outfitters, Office Depot, Staples, Target, Walgreens, Toys”R”Us, Blue Bottle Coffee, Palo Alto Toy & Sport, Raley’s Nob Hill Foods, and a few others. But importantly, you won’t be visiting those stores online directly to order, rather Google has created a single location from which to order all these goods online.Anything you order will be delivered the same day depending on what time you order. The details of cut off points for same day dispatch haven’t been made public yet, but you will have to choose a delivery window, which currently include Anytime Today, 10am-2pm, 2pm-6pm, and 6pm-9pm.It looks like Google intends to roll out Shopping Express as a subscription service. If you are eligible and sign up now you will get six months of free and unlimited same day deliveries. The pricing for subscriptions is another thing Google is still figuring out, but it’s sure to be popular if it means getting your goods that much faster even if it does come at a premium. If you’re interested, you can sign up to be a tester on the Google Shopping Express page.last_img read more
