Grateful Dead’s Boston College 4/2/73 Show To Be Featured On “Dave’s Picks Vol. 21”

first_imgGrateful Dead archivist David Lemieux has revealed plans for the newest installment in his archival series! The new Dave’s Picks Vol. 21 will highlight a beloved era in the Dead’s career, spotlighting the band’s performance on April 2, 1973 at Boston Garden. In announcing the new release, Lemieux called the show a “truly perfectly-played example of the excellence that defined 1973 Grateful Dead concerts.” It’s no surprise that a mid-1973 performance would be featured to kick off the 2017 installment of Dave’s Picks, as the year is known to be one of the best for the Grateful Dead. The band emerged strongly after the loss of founding keyboardist Pigpen, finding their groove with Keith and Donna Godchaux on the road. They toured harder than ever and amassed quite a following in those days, one that remains to this day.The 4/2/73 performance opens with songs like “Promised Land” and “Deal,” and features lengthy versions of jams like “Playin’ In The Band,” “Here Comes Sunshine” and “Eyes Of The World.” You can get a taste from the taper recording in the Archive.org player below. For more information on the new Dave’s Picks release and 2017 subscriptions, head here.last_img read more
